This National Poetry Month, let's celebrate the legacy and impact of Latine poets in the U.S. and around the world. Newly appointed San Diego Poet Laureate Paola Capó-García will share poems in English and Spanish from her favorite Latine poets of the 20th and 21st centuries in an effort to remind us of their cultural, political, and aesthetic influence. Bring your own favorite poem by a Latine author to share with the group or just come to listen and discuss.
A resident of North Park who is originally from Puerto Rico, Ms. Capó-García is the City’s third poet laureate. She is the author of Clap for Me That’s Not Me, which won Rescue Press' 2017 Black Box Poetry Prize. Her work has been featured in The Volta, The Texas Review, Puerto Rico en mi corazón, Latino Book Review, and other publications.
