Film: The Yidishe Gauchos

Yiddishland, 1128 Wall St, San Diego

Film Download To My Calendar

The film is about Jews escaping Eastern Europe and immigrating to the pampas of Argentina. When Jews fled to Argentina in the 19th century, many were able to become ranchers and farmers with the help of the Jewish Colonization Association and the term “Jewish Gaucho” was used to refer to Jewish people who took on a life of agriculture that was historically associated with Argentine cowboys. The event will be a chance to watch the film and offer an opportunity to speak with the film’s director with hopes of gaining a deeper understanding of the film, as well as with another professor, Alejandro Meter, who represents Argentinian Jews of San Diego. Narrated by Eli Wallach.
